A Flock of Seagulls

Ever since I got this Pion sea themed paper I have been thinking about making a vintage nautical themed collage card.  I was having fun finding decorative elements for this card.  It wasn't until I added the seagulls though that I could literally see, hear and feel the sea theme.  The little boy is adorable and is from a page of vintage images within the Pion paper collection.

Believe In Your Future

This is another attempt at using up some hoarded treasure.  This actually could be used as a graduation card...vintage style.  I had fun gathering up bits and pieces for the card as I went along.  I never really have a clear idea of what the finished card will be when I start out.  The trigger for this card began with a piece of background cardstock that I was using as a mask for spraying other pieces.  I had just gotten my hands on the new Prima Color Bloom sprays and was testing them out. Love, love, love them!  I daubed the damp sprayed matte coated paper with a paper towel and then when dry I burnished the metallic color that the sprays left on it. I had also just received the Tim Holtz new Idea-ology products and they worked perfectly together.

When all was said and done not much of my original background paper actually showed but it did it's job by triggering my imagination.

A Magpie's Birthday

Magpies are known for their attraction to bright shiny baubles.  I can relate.  I collect a lot of card "pretties" and hoard them well.  I'm working on using more of this collected stuff on my cards and so I've been working on some collage style cards as of late. Most of the decoratives are old except the very cool and sparkly  textured dot pieces from Prima Say It In Crystals Seashore which is a new release. Love These! very interesting looking and they change color with the tilt of the card sort of a vintage glass effect.

Buzzing By With Easter Wishes For VI

Working on Spring and Easter cards can be a bit of a challenge when winter decides to slip back into view.  It's just a little depressing when you get teased with a beautiful warm day and slammed with snow & ice the next.  We were lucky because just 40 miles north of us they received well over a foot of new snow yesterday...while we "only" received a couple of inches.  I made this Easter card for my friend Vi who is looking forward to Spring as much as I am.

card size: 5 1/2" x 4 1/4"

Stamps:   Papertrey Ink- Mixed Messages,  Taylored Expressions- Mixed Blooms set (inside), Stampabilities- Buzzy Friends

Tools:   Lawn Fawn- Spring Showers die set (stitched clouds), Memory Box- Precious Daisies die,  Poppy Stamps- Fuzzy Bunnies die (back of card)

You Are My Sunshine

I made this card for a challenge at Splitcoast Stampers called: "Got Wind".  I've been wanting to make a card with one of these Phyllis Harris "wind blown" girls. I kept this design very simple...no bells & whistles...just a little watercolor.

 card size: 5 1/2 x 4 1/4"

I had some fun with the inside of the card using the "embedded" technique with the cute Papertrey Ink die cut.  I should have put the tan cardstock pieces back into the letters but liked the pop of blue that peeked through from the backing card. The matching PTI stamp set is versatile as it has several words to put in "You are my..."

Stamps:   Unity Stamp Co.- Phyllis Harris "Face The Sunshine" cling set, Papertrey Ink- Phrase Play #1

Inks:   Archival Jet Black, Distress Markers

Embellishment:   Swarovski Crystal size 9 Topaz

She Says Best Wishes

I love seeing the vintage lady images come to life with color.  I have to admit that parts of this image were confusing to me(especially under her hat) but I tried to use the stamped shading as a guide.  I am enjoying watercolor so have been a bit in a rut about it with my cards.  I do love Copic markers but there is just something so imperfect and sometimes unexpected when it comes to watercolor. It feels softer and more relaxing to me right now. It must be the coming of Spring having it's influence on me ;)

Celebrating You

It is that time of the year with graduations coming soon.  I had already made a high school grad card for my granddaughter Sierra.  Now I have my daughter's card finished.  She is graduating from college in a just a few short weeks.I am so proud of her :))  I needed something a bit special and unique- just like her- so why not the rare spotted pink owl??? perfect!!!  Owls have a lot of meaning within the Dakotah culture.  This one is just a flamboyant and joyful deliverer of good wishes having brought along a special dream catcher to catch and hold all of those good wishes, dreams, and love.

 card size: 7" x 5"

I didn't use watercolor paper for this card as I didn't know what I would be using for color but it was a pretty heavy cardstock so it worked.  The subtle spots on the owl were made by using a Faber-Castell Pitt Artist pen in white.  One thing cool about this India ink pen is that once dry it acts as a resist to watercolored inks applied over it so might be useful for "special effects" on backgrounds and for added texture. The bright white dots are from my new favorite Uni Posa white paint pen in a fine point.
I really love this clear stamp set which contains a large butterfly, dragonfly and another adorable big eyed owl. The stamps are huge!  Hopefully they still make this one...not sure.

I Just Adore You

This card was a series of challenges...but for me it is all about the process.  The parts that I had some difficulty with were "making coffee" in the cup, forgetting to color the saucer rim to match the cup (until after the fact) and figuring out a plan for the coffee steam.  That dang steam ended up dictating my card design but I think it worked out ok.

card size: 5 1/2 x 4 1/4"

Miss You Vignette

For today I have a vintage vignette featuring this weeks' Wednesday sketch from Splitcoast Stampers.  I believe this is a new La Blanche stamp...at least it's new for me.  This is also the first time that I tried watercoloring one of the La Blanche vintage style stamp images.  It stamped very well on watercolor paper even though the image is finely detailed.  I did use the smoother side of Ranger's(Tim's) watercolor paper.

card size: 5 1/2 x 4 1/4"

Hello Wonderful

I've survived another snowstorm...hopefully the last.  I'm stuck on floral cards for now because snowflakes don't really count as flowers and I'm needing some Spring inspiration.
These are some of my new die acquisitions.  I know I need to stop looking at new dies but these are so pretty.  I die cut the floral bouquet twice.  One from black linen and one from watercolor cardstock. I did alter the butterfly a bit as it is supposed to just be wings that you can lift from the cardstock layer.  I cut it out and used another butterfly body to make it as a dimensional element.

card size: 5 1/2 x 4 1/4"

I went a little layer crazy on this one but I needed that pop of pale gold cardstock between the layers. I usually do end up making "hefty" cards.
