Warm Wishes

We finally got our first big snow.  I spent a couple of snowy days working on sorting my seasonal stamps before putting them away for another year.  It's still December though and I have not made near enough snowman themed cards so they haven't been tucked away yet.  This cute little snow couple is bringing winter birthday wishes to someone near to my heart.

Let's Be Jolly

I'm all done with my Christmas cards for another year.  The presents are wrapped and ready to go.  I'm still mulling over baking this year as I usually do it all in a marathon three days before Christmas.  It's just impossible for me to have willpower around all of my seasonal favorites.  We shall see.

This little guy was so fun to color.  It's nice to get to that point at Christmas time where you can start feeling "jolly" and ready to get your "jingle on" instead of being panicked and stressed.  I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas time with family and friends!

Country Christmas

Those pine tree dies are back today looking a little bit folksy.  This is sort of a patched together collage look that was really quick and easy to put together.  Nearly all of the patterned papers I used came from one collection...with the exception of the snow drift.  This made matching the elements of the card a breeze.

Oh Christmas Tree

This card came together very quickly and easily.  I used three Distress Ink pads smooshed onto acetate and spritzed with water to create a very quick watercolor background.  I love this technique because using the clear acetate allows you to place color where you like.  The first layer is the wettest. Once that is mostly dry I add color from what is left on the acetate.  Sometimes I spray more water onto the ink remaining on the acetate to get more coverage.  My favorite thing though is to use the little ink droplets that are left on the acetate after the first use...just as they are...and just kind of "stamp" them with the acetate.

I found three cardstock colors that were similar to the Distress Inks I used for the background.  Isn't this tree die set just the most adorable?  I love the clean lines and retro feel to the trees.  I just might have to make another card using these trees because they are just that fun! :)

Oh Deer

I have been saving this very drab background I made last summer in hopes that someday I would find a use for it.  I like how it looks with the bright silver reindeer deer so I am happy to add this card to my "man cards" for Christmas.

I first stamped a word background over a matte coat card stock using VersaMark ink.  Once that was dry I brayered a gray die ink over the word background.  It was pretty subtle so I added a fine mist of Shimmer Spray.  Still not liking it I added a star stenciled background using a silver embossing paste.  Finally I threw it into my holding bin because that background was not ever going to work for a summer card. You can tell that I'm getting just a little bit desperate here as I search for inspiration to finish my Christmas cards.  ;)

Christmas Moon

I was supposed to be cleaning my stamp studio today but I got distracted by an Inspiration Challenge on Splitcoast Stampers which featured tags.  I used a piece of background I had created previously.  It was just a bit of netting stamped in Distress ink onto damp watercolor card stock.  I added various stamps, acrylic paint spatters and white embossing powder to make it look more festive.

I was really hoping that ultimately I would be able to make a "guy" Christmas card using the tag once completed.  To that end I kept the color choices fairly neutral with some metallic gold and some understated sparkle.

Roses in December

The Featured Stamper this week at Splitcoast Stampers is Laine Webb (Crafterlaine). She has a fabulous gallery.  Please visit here to see her wonderful cards. If I were you I would just grab a cup of cocoa or my favorite...chai tea...and just enjoy.

I created this card to show how inspiring she is to me.  I was going to add more "stuff" to it but it quickly became too busy.  I was reminded of the beautiful saying...God gave us memory so that we might have roses in December (James M. Barrie)

I left the inside blank because I may use this as a birthday card for my daughter in January.

A Partridge For You

I had another image colored so I got it assembled into a card today.  This one had an accident but I was able to save it.  I was glittering all of the ornaments with a Wink of Stella marker when it randomly dropped a big blob of sparkly liquid.  I grabbed a paper towel and blotted but by then the ornament looked like a fuzzy mess.  I used a tiny heart with some more Wink...from a different marker :) and Ranger Glossy Accents.  This embellishment was just big enough to cover the yucky spot.

Poinsettia Pixie

I'm still slowly plunking away at my Christmas cards.  I have so much I need to be doing to prepare for the holidays.  It always comes together anyways even when I worry so much that it won't.

I created this card for the Splitcoast Stampers Color Challenge this week.  Rose Red, Honey Yellow and Garden Green were perfect for a Christmas card.

Santa Ornament

I have two Christmas trees that I swap out year to year.  I have the "spa" tree which is a flocked tree. It's calm and somewhat monochromatic in sage green, cream, and cocoa.  I have pretty silvery mercury glass ornaments, pine cones, and tatted snowflakes on that one.  I like that one because it matches my house decor.  Then I have the traditional "memory" tree.  It's full of gaudy old ornaments bought through out the years and a few remaining baubles that my kids made ages ago.  It's like reading a book about our family to see all the history on that tree.  It's well loved and as eclectic as can be.  This year it will be time for the memory tree  :)

I just love vintage/retro Christmas ornaments.  When I saw this digital stamp it sure brought back memories.  I took no time to fuss about coloring the image...no extra time at all spent shading...very simple and enjoyable to color. I added some quirky layers to enhance the retro feel of the ornament.

We Three Trees

I have been so busy this Fall but I have scheduled myself some stamping time just for sanity sake.  I still haven't brought out my seasonal stamps but that is my goal this weekend.  I recently received this Sizzix tree die set.  I really have quite a collection of graphic tree dies as I love adding these to my Christmas cards.

I previously made some pretty eclectic Brusho backgrounds...translation = what was I thinking when I chose some of these colors?  These were not backgrounds but more like foregrounds.  I thought- well how perfect for these die cut trees.  I then looked through some of my "vintage" wood mounts and found some lovely old images to decorate the die cuts.

I used the same die cut set to cut the trunks out of corrugate.  I painted the trunks and little wooden stars with gold acrylic paint.  I found that the "stair step" height look of my three trees needed a balance so I included the star.  Quick and easy-peasy.

Hobnobbing Goblin

Halloween is nigh...the goblins are soon afoot.  When I first saw this Mo Manning digital image I knew I had to have "him".  Isn't he just the cutest goblin ever?  I have no idea what color goblins are.  First I used some light warm gray Copic colors on his skin. I hoped this would tone down his brightness as I would be adding some greens, yellow and lavender colors.  I gave him some big green eyes and then finished coloring his clothes and pumpkin in appropriate Halloween colors.  He is off to deliver Halloween greetings to my friend Vi.
