Brighter Days

I made a clean and simple card today.  My stamp room has reached "critical mass" which simply means no more work can be done until it's picked up. Usually when I start doing that clean up I end up making a quick card from all the pieces that are still on top of the pile.  This card features an image from Digital Two For Tuesday which is a site which offers free digital images of vintage line drawings taken from old catalogs etc.  They have lovely old flower drawings as well as nice fashion images.  I had this one colored up and awaiting being fitted to a card.  I happened to have this bright background paper out which I had used recently and it just happened to match.  I love using diagonal stripe papers to frame a main image.  This one has a rainbow peeking all around. I didn't spend a lot of time on the coloring which means I was just coloring and not thinking about it too much.

Blue Skies

I'm still "crushing" on those colors featured this week in the Color Challenge over at Splitcoast. I decided to feature them on this beautiful Prickly Pear Cactus image even though I just don't think I have ever seen blooming cactus this color...but why not? ;)
I do recall several times I have been lucky enough to see the spring bloom in the desert. It is awesome though gone far to quickly.  I water colored this image with Distress Ink using the exact same inks as I used previously for the color challenge earlier this week. I added a little Spiced Marmalade for the bloom centers. Now that I have faced my anxiety for coloring cactus I will be happy to use this image a lot...I love it!

No Shadows For You

I recently realized that my stamping "career" has reached a milestone.  I bought my first rubber stamp in 1985 and it's sure been a long and wonderfully winding road since.  When House Mouse stamps first came out I was the owner of Impress Your Self.  I remember how people loved them and waited anxiously for each new addition to the series.  Sometime in the past few years I got rid of my collection of them.  I recently "re-bought" this one because it just "speaks" to me.  There were a few years in my life where it was very hard to have time to relax and just enjoy a quiet moment. Now most all of my moments are relaxed and I feel quite a bit like that little mouse just floating along in the sun.

I made a water puddle on the watercolor paper after I stamped the image in Archival Jet Black ink.  I then sprinkled some tiny bits of Brusho over the wet and daubed at it just a little with a paint brush to get it flowing around in the water.  It separates into pretty colors when left alone to air dry.  Each Brusho color is different and sometimes the color that appears is quite unexpected.  I got interrupted while doing this today before I could brush out the hard edge of the puddle with water but I think I like the look for something different.

Hey There Friend

My favorite roses to color are those featuring yellow.  Yellow roses are a symbol of joy, friendship, and good health.  This image is a digital from Power Poppy.  I print these out on an Epson Artisan 810.  This may be an "old" printer by now but it works well for digital images which will be colored by Copics.  I use the Epson card stock called Premium Presentation Paper Matte.  It must be "premium" to work.  It is a thin card stock I'm guessing maybe 45# or less.  The magic is that when you use Copics on it you get such a bright saturation of color...it pops.  There are downsides as well though.  You can't erase color pencil and those little color pencil bits that may get on your work are there forever.  It's probably very easy to overwork the Copic color and saturate this card stock but that isn't how I work so it's ok for my style.

A Single Step

The colors for the Splitcoast Color Challenge were so yummy this week I decided to play along.  I recently received a new stamp set created by Dina Wakley and it is awesome to play with.  I embossed the image with white embossing powder onto water color paper.  I then taped it down onto a board.  I made a puddle of water around the image and began to drop in Distress Inks with a loaded paint brush until I achieved the mixing I was looking for.  I left the piece to air dry as magical blending sometimes happens when the color is left to dry naturally. I then added more color in the "wordy" part of the image and speckled with Distress Ink Black Soot to finish it off.

Thinking of Tulips

This lovely tulip by Power Poppy is a digital image. I have the polymer set with this image included but I love to try to create a bold main focus on my cards sometimes so resizing the digi is a great option.  Coloring this tulip was pretty scary and I was very intimidated.  I finally just tried to figure out light areas and dark areas.  I know I took creative license but finally was happy with the overall effect.  I have a very hard time leaving "white space" so I use a white colored pencil to lighten some parts that needed it. I can hardly wait until Spring comes... but until then I can create my own garden :)

Yes I am still looking high and low for my mojo but I did find some motivation at Splitcoast Stampers with the color challenge this week.  Five colors were offered and you could use three or all.  I think I got them all and then some.  I am featuring this adorable parakeet with the stack of cups image from a set called Short Stacks available from Power Poppy as a clear set. There are other cute stacks in the set.  This is a smallish image but through design I created a 6" x 6" card which is fairly large. A very sweet set and enjoyable to color.

Fabulous Birthday

I'm still having a hard time getting my "mojo" back.  This card almost hit the circular file after I made a big boo boo.  I did manage to save the card but it got a little blinged out in the process of creating camouflage. I'm having a bad headache today...so will just leave this short and sweet :)  Happy Valentine's day!

Oh Bear...I Will Always Love You

I decided to get my husband's Valentine card done today... he is out of town... so I had no fear of him sneaking up on me while I'm working ;)  He has worn many hats in his life. He is retired and currently a silversmith full-time.  He went off to Tucson AZ for the big Mineral and Gem Show.  I can't wait to see what a treasure trove of stones he brings back.

In our family my husband is known as "Papa Bear".  Since that would make me Mama Bear I guess that could be me on the card front "inhaling" those lilacs because goodness knows Papa doesn't "stop and smell the flowers" enough.  I wanted to show the "scent" of the flowers through the use of watercolor and paint spatter.

card size:   5 1/2"  x  5 1/2"

You Are My Heart

While I was growing up my mother owned a pet store.  Consequently I had some unusual pets to care for and/or keep depending on the circumstance.  "Peaches" was my favorite...an inquisitive, noisy and very loving...love bird.  I recently discovered that love bird courtships are quite a ritual and result in a life long relationship.  Valentine's day is the perfect time to celebrate these sweet little birds.

I created this card for a challenge at Splitcoast  Stampers.  The challenge is to put your words "down under" in honor of Groundhog Day.  I wanted to feature my words in a sun.  I had a few "boo-boo dead ends" along the way so this card kept evolving.  The white layers are popped up with foam tape so I could get my words properly down under ;)
