A Stack of Wishes

This is another fabulous Catherine Scanlon stamp.  These designs are just a joy to color.  They are big with wide open spaces.  This opens up so many options for what you use to add color with although the obvious for me seems to be watercolor.  I chose a color palette that reminds me of Fiesta Ware which is the color of happy :) I used the Stick It sheet adhesive on the tiny, swirly "Hello" die...so easy!

Serenity

My daughter visited yesterday and caught me busy at play coloring some pieces for future cards.  She saw this piece and wanted it as a bookmark. I finished it for her today.

The Serenity Prayer has much meaning for me because I feel that the words within the prayer apply to living a healthy life.  I am a worrier by nature...so this is my mantra at times.

Don't Be Blue

This was an attempt at a quick card.  I won't bore you with all of the details but I worked on this card way too long.  There is a challenge at Splitcoast Stampers where you need to think about your stamp style...tortoise? or hare?  I choose to be a tortoise so I can enjoy the process of making cards.  Coloring takes time.  Have umpteen layers takes time :)  Finding the perfect papers and embellishments take time.  I savor each minute of that time.  Even this card... I don't quite feel it's done... I might redo my clouds...

Sending You Love

The stamp I used on this is an "oldie" but a "goodie". This one had never touched ink.  The way I feel about stamps like this is that I am very attracted to them when I buy them and then can't figure out how to use them or how to color them.  I'm pretty sure I bought this stamp in my pre-Copic phase.  Anyhoo I had the urge to try to color these bottles.  I was combining both the current Color Challenge and Sketch Challenge at Splitcoast Stampers.  This limited me on color choice and layout as I needed to match up with the challenges.  This is where having a focus is helpful...and that enabled me to complete this card.

Be A Dreamer

This is another card featuring a piece of Cosmo Cricket Just Add Watercolor Paper.  I colored this one using Brusho watercolor crystals.  After it was dry it looked sort of "zen" to me.  I liked the gold accents on the paper plus there was a little gold watercolor in the color mix.  I went looking for gold accent pieces and thought of this new die I had just purchased which looked fantastic cut out of gold cardstock.

I also used a product for the first time...  Stick-It.  These are ultra thin double sided adhesive sheets that you trim down and apply to the piece of cardstock that you will be using to die cut from.  It works awesomely and there are no stray "glue goobers" to deal with. Great product!

I always save every bit of the pieces I work with when making a card.  Often I use these "scraps" to make a matching inside.  Really- sometimes I have more creative fun with the inside than the outside ;)

Hope

I pretty much spent the day yesterday playing with watercolor.  I couldn't wait for Cosmo Cricket's Just Add Watercolor Paper to come out ever since I saw it as a new 2015  CHA product.  What it is basically- is a lighter weight watercolor paper with an assortment of designs either in gold letter press and/or lacquered for a resist.  There are different sized pieces to use on your cards. There are also cards pre-done and ready to watercolor.

I have a couple of heavy wooden clipboards that I use to tape down watercolor paper before I saturate it.  Because this paper was thinner it warped quite a bit as it dried even though it was taped down and allowed to dry completely.  What I do when this happens is use red liner tape to adhere it to a heavy card stock piece and then trim down as needed.

Bloom

Well- after 9.5 inches of snow last night it's a good thing that there are tulip stamps to be colored so that I can pretend that spring is really here after all.  We actually had a very wimpy winter but I miss the smell of mowed lawn, flowers and barbeque.  This was a very simple and quick card.  I water colored using Distress Mini Ink pads smooshed onto a flat watercolor tray and a wet brush.

Bunny Peeps

Today I have a simple card that involved some patience.  I went into my scrap box and found some springy colors.  I used the peep from My Favorite Things Candy Jars set to make my bright peeps against a black background.  Yes...I had to die cut one peep at a time.  All of the peeps are popped up with black foam tape (say that three times quickly) I'm pleasantly surprised that they came out fairly even for placement.  My husband is addicted to peeps. Thankfully he only eats them during Easter time but that can include for breakfast. He works hard for the privilege...at the health club 4-5 days per week.  One peep feast for me and it's "all about that bass".  Enjoy!

The Joy of Spring

Today I went a little mixed media style to create a challenge card.  I'm not really comfortable with mixed media because it involves a certain amount of imperfection...like it needs imperfection and/or "forgiveness" of imperfection to evolve properly.  I am a perfectionist and if truth be told I am never totally happy with my work.  It is what drives me to improve...I am never "there".  I enjoy picking apart my own cards.  My daughter thinks it's hilarious.  Every time she sees a card that I've made she asks me what I disapprove of on this one :)  Every card I make is an opportunity for me to learn.

Be Yourself

Today I toned it down a bit. This card has a special meaning for me and will be given to a a special someone who I am supporting as they continue their life journey.  I used this sweet set before but for this card I changed up the colors on the birdies and the orientation of the flower branch.  The white embossing makes the color seem more muted and soft...kind of spring like.

Fuzzy Ellie Joy

I need a baby card soon.  When I saw the sketch challenge at Splitcoast Stampers I  saw the opportunity to use one of my new acquisitions a very tiny baby elephant stamp.  I have teeny tiny baby elephants from a couple of companies now.  I fell in love with "itty bitty" card samples after I promised myself to take more care to find out actual stamp design sizes.  Under 2" is pushing it for me as I have to stretch to make that small image a focal piece on my not "itty bitty" cards.  I tried something new for me when I water colored the baby ellie.  I watched a video by Dawn Woleslagle which is on the W Plus 9 blog and You Tube(I have it listed under company blogs there to the left).  I forgot to stamp off my Distress Soot and my ellie got fuzzy...but how cute is that.  Baby Elephants are fuzzy dontcha know. I also forgot to use water color paper and had an interesting experience with Neenah Solar White 110# which I actually found to be fun :)

Dear Friend

My card today is in honor of this weeks featured stamper at Splitcoast Stampers.  Chitra Nair has lots of lovely well colored cards in her gallery.  I saw that she likes Mo Manning images and occasionally colors her images with colored pencil so that's the way I went with this card.  I used a kraft card stock that has a lot of "tooth".  I think I got it from Hero Arts.  It sort of feels like coloring on a paper bag.  It's very hard for me to photograph color pencil under my light as the light just bounces off the pencil wax.  I tried to tip my card out of the glare a little to get a more truer color.
