Iris Wishes

Today I joined an interesting Free For All Challenge at Splitcoast Stampers where you had to use part of an adult coloring book page on your card.  I bought some adult coloring books at Christmas for gifts.  This coloring book never ended up being gifted...I just couldn't give it up.

The coloring book has page after page of fashionistas dressed in amazing floral couture. I only used a portion of an image for my card because they're quite large.  I suppose I could have scanned the image- reduced it and printed it on better quality paper but I wanted to use the actual color book page.  Let me tell you Copics are pretty interesting to work with on such thin paper but they did work.  You could only really tell what color/shading you achieved after the paper dried.

I cut out the image mostly because the background paper was full of black specks of unknown origin...they were not erasable. There are some specks on her too but not too noticeable. I like how the image looks on the decorative paper background.  It adds a little interest.

Lilac Thoughts

I created this card for a Splitcoast challenge with "Anything Plaid" as a theme.  I searched through some of my plaid background papers until I found this one.  I love to use these colors for lilacs.

I found a very old discontinued wood mounted stamp that is "on the bubble" as I need to reduce the quantity of stuff I will be packing up to move later on this year. Those big old wood mounts are sort of like dinosaurs now-a-days. I'm having a hard time figuring out what I want to keep...which is actually everything!  I believe I will be stamping in a "bonus room" in the house...fancy term for a usable upstairs attic. Oh I can't wait to start over...NOT!   But on the bright side I know I will have an even nicer stamping area with more natural light. Maybe if I start packing now I can sneak more in...

Thinking In Color

I'm still working my way through my Valentines.  My daughter is a fan of my more colorful cards.  She is also personally getting interested in watercolor and has done some very pretty things.

When I got this stamp I could see that it would be a perfect showcase for some color.  One thing I found out about the Arches Hot Press watercolor paper is that it doesn't bleach out.  Normally when I use Ranger Distress Watercolor Paper I can beach out color in unwanted places like the face when I stamp over colors.  I had to use some PaperArtsy Fresco paint to cover the watercolor.  I have to double check and make sure that my bleach hasn't lost it's potency before I know for sure.

Hey Girl

I joined in this week for the Color Challenge at Splitcoast Stampers.  I liked the color combo and it was perfect for a card I had just stamped.  My water-coloring sort of washed out the colors during photography again.  They have a little more "punch" in real life.  I just received this cute stamp set from Unity Stamp Co.  They had an awesome 60% off sale last week.  This artist's designs are some of my favorites for watercolor...Angie Blom.

Crazy Love

Still lovin' those crazy birds.  I just had to make a Valentine card using my favorite crazy bird for my favorite grandson.  I only have one grandson but he is... awesome!

This card is just full of dots.  I used a stencil to make an embossed background.  I used swiss dot cardstock with teensy dots for the "snow drift".  I stenciled more dots onto my water color background using white Fresco chalk paint.  I added lots of dots all over with a Uniball Signo gel pen.  His beak, wing and bow tie are popped up on dimensionals.  I am entering this card in Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge:  Love is In The Air + use red

Brighter Days Ahead

Today I made a very quick card using a watercolor background that I had previously finished.  I used the Kuretake Zig Clean Color brush markers by just scribbling colors in different areas then hitting with a burst of water spray. I just received this silhouette stamp from Impression Obsession.  I stamped it twice on hot press watercolor color paper
using my MISTI tool.  I am anxiously waiting for the smaller MISTI due out soon.  I love the bigger one but to be honest my stamping table is usually pretty full of stuff and when I use my MISTI I need to clear a spot for it.  It is a lifesaver for me...love it! I also stamped the umbrella on decorative paper.  I used a ball stylus to add curve to the umbrella and popped it up on dimensional adhesive.

 Card Size:   A2  5 1/2" x 4 1/4"

Stamps:   Impression Obsession- Umbrella Silhouette,  My Favorite Things- Blue Skies Ahead set

Annah's Birthday

My oldest granddaughter Annah is very close to celebrating her 25th birthday.  Wha-a-a-a-t?  I just can't believe how quickly the years have passed.  When I saw this stamp I was reminded of her.  Taking pictures of my cards under a "white" light sort of fades the watercolors...so in real life she has black hair...not gray ;)

 Card Size:   A6  6 1/4" x 4 1/2"

Here's My Heart

I just love these sweet mice...and have for years.  I think it's wonderful that Stampendous took on these designs so that the love could continue.  I stamped these on a wonderful and new to me watercolor paper- Arches Hot Pressed 100% cotton.  Fine details stamp so beautifully on this as it is very smooth.  I used Distress Markers scribbled onto a plastic palette and picked up with a wet/damp paint brush to watercolor with.  As this is a "Springy" card I used pastel colors and gray background. Another fun find is the new Memory Box Grossgrain Ribbons die set...very cute with their subtle textured pattern.

 Card Size:   A2   5 1/2" x 4 1/4"

Love Flows

This is a more bold Valentine using a vibrant watercolor background.  I love how water reactive the Kuretake Zig Clean Color brush markers are.  I really didn't care for these markers for the purpose of coloring in stamped designs.  They really shine when used as free flowing watercolor.  I haven't tried all of the colors.  I understand that some are more easy to work with than others.  I chose a vibrant yellow, blue and fuchsia.  I did keep in mind what colors should be near each other when I scribbled some color areas onto the taped down watercolor paper.  I spritzed the colors heavily with water and allowed the piece to air dry.  The mingling of color created quite a few new colors and some soft blending around the edges.

 Card Size:   A2  5 1/2" x 4 1/4"

Nothing But Love

I created this vintage Valentine's Day card for a stamping challenge that involved "losing weight in the craft room".  I understand this to mean using some stamping consumables that perhaps were being hoarded in order to "lighten up" some inventory for the new year.

I have been hoarding some lovely vintage collage elements that I purchased awhile back from The Funkie Junkie.  This was/is a beautiful collection of goodies packaged so nicely in a hand decorated box.  Many of the items in the box are handmade.  I made myself use some of those pretties and hopefully I'll use some more before Valentine's Day.
