Celebrate Life

This background was an unplanned one.  I usually tape my watercolor paper down prior to making backgrounds so that I have less buckling of the paper.  For this one I had a last minute idea to use some PaperArtsy Infusion powders before cleaning up my work area and going to bed.  I sprayed the watercolor paper heavily with water.  It curled up so I dribbled bits of the watercolor crystals in the middle and added more spray so they ran down each side of the "hill".  What I like about this background is that you can easily see the difference in the colors of the PaperArtsy Infusions as compared to others on the market.  They have a much more vintage look.  There are definitely times I am going for a less vibrant look.  I also like how once dry the pattern of color looked like a landscape.

Just Shine

I made this card for my husband's birthday tomorrow.  I really enjoyed trying to create a colorful galaxy for him.  I have tried several different ways to make watercolor galaxies.  This latest one was influenced by Kristina Werner who recently created a spectacular galaxy card for a rainbow color challenge.  Be sure to watch her video as she demos her galaxy card.  One thing she says that is very true...until you add the star "spatters" you won't get the full effect so don't feel that you have failed to produce a "galaxy" until you complete it all.

Rainbow Bright

This whimsical card was made for a Splitcoast Free For All Challenge with weather as a theme.  For the most part recent days here in Minnesota have been summer bright with nice white puffy clouds...maybe just a sun shower or two.  I like how my background just "says" summer.  I used the Kuretake Zig Clean Color Brush Markers to acheive the bright colors by spritzing the watercolor paper heavily with water to allow for max color flow.  I used the Ranger Distress Watercolor Paper which allows the true colors to shine through.  I paper pieced to "color" my images.  I had a bit of water-colored paper left over from another project to do the birdie bodies. I'll be using these sets again "fer sure"...they are so fun to play with.

Be You

I created this card for the weekly Inspiration Challenge at Splitcoast Stampers.  I made a watercolor background using Distress Inks.  Once I saw how the colors blended into each other I thought it might be interesting to stamp over the background with this Carabelle skull image.  I like how the skulls are each unique which gave me an idea of where to take the theme of the card.

Stamps:   Carabelle- Background tetes de mort,  Impression Obsession- Kind Words(Be Yourself),  Stampers Anonymous- Tim Holtz Collection- Courage

Rose Wishes

I have been wanting to try out this beautiful Penny Black stamp using their signature style of watercolor.  I hand colored the stamp with Distress Markers using one shade of red and one of green.  While it was freshly colored I used a waterbrush to go over all of the shaded portions of the lower rose.  Once that dried a little I added more color for depth.  I added a light layer of a more coral color- probably Ripe persimmon.  I finished the leaves using 3 colors of green.  Then I left it overnight.  I had cleaned up my work surface so I guessed at the colors I had used.  When the Distress Marker color dries into this type of watercolor paper it doesn't really dissolve anymore so all color had to be added.  I also used a paint brush to color the top flower.  Not quite a match! uh-oh...but I like the interest it gave to the image.  I used a bigger brush to add blue and a touch of watery reds around the rose once it was completely dry.  The black specks were flicked on for a final bit of texture.
