This technique is called Vintage Watercolor. Because of it's unique properties Distress Ink is the ink of choice for this technique. You will simply stamp your image in Vintage Photo or any other Distress brown ink. You will then take a water brush or paint brush to go over all of the outline to bring some of the brown into the main color area. Once done you would add a more muted or soft colors to the design. Heather also recommends using The Speedball Elegant Writer pen for shading and adding depth. I scribbled some of the marker onto my plastic palette and added it with a wet brush. The black ink color of this pen breaks down into blues, greens and finally pinks. I used this on the flower centers along with Vintage Photo and also on the leaves.
tip: If you are using any other watercolor paper other than Ranger Distress Watercolor paper I would recommend brushing over the Distress Ink stamped outline right away. I found that with Arches Hot Press watercolor paper once dry the outline did not want to "move".
